Adam L. Kern is author and editor of several books on Japanese literature, including The Penguin Book of Haiku (Penguin Classics, 2018). He studied Japanese literature at the University of Minnesota, the University of Kyoto, and Harvard University, where he earned a Ph.D. in East Asian Languages & Civilizations. He is Professor of Japanese Literature and Visual Culture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
