THF Haiga Galleries: Photo Haiku of Mark Teaford 2

Mark Teaford
The Haiku Foundation honors the work of contemporary masters of the dual art of haiga: visual image wedded to haiku. This month’s featured artist is Mark Teaford.
Mark Teaford is a biological anthropologist and anatomist who’s taught anatomy to medical students, and anatomy and biological anthropology to undergraduates, for over 40 years. He believes in giving back to his profession, so he’s served on editorial boards for scientific journals, reviewed research proposals for funding agencies, and gives talks to local schools and libraries. When he’s not teaching, he enjoys doing research on teeth, fossils, and primates, and he derives great pleasure from photography and poetry. His poems have been published in numerous journals – but he’s never quite organized enough, or confident enough, to submit them for contests! His first collection of photography and poems, Staring at the Midnight Sky, was published by Red Moon Press in 2020.
